Israel Monitoring Greta Thunberg’s Gaza Aid Flotilla
Updated June 04, 2025
Israel has stated it is closely watching the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which includes climate activist Greta Thunberg, as it makes its way toward the Gaza Strip. The flotilla aims to deliver aid and highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond.
Thunberg, 22, embarked on the journey this week aboard the Madleen, flying a Palestinian flag, accompanied by 11 other activists.the group hopes to reach Gaza’s shores to provide assistance and raise awareness.the Swedish activist said, “We are doing this because, no matter what odds we are against, we have to keep trying.”
Brig. gen. Effie Defrin, an IDF spokesman, told the Times of London that the military is prepared for the flotilla’s arrival. “We have gained experience in recent years, and we will act accordingly,” Defrin said, without elaborating on specific measures.
The Madleen’s crew includes actor Liam Cunningham and Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament. Hassan, who is of Palestinian descent, has been barred from entering Israel due to her opposition to Israeli actions in Gaza.
An earlier Freedom Flotilla Coalition ship was reportedly damaged last month before it could pick up Thunberg in Malta for a similar mission. The group alleged that Israel attacked the vessel with drones.

Because the moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity. And no matter how dangerous this mission is, it’s not even near as dangerous as the silence of the entire world in the face of the livestreamed genocide.
What’s next
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition will continue its journey toward Gaza, while the world awaits to see how Israel will respond to the activists’ attempt to break the blockade and deliver aid.
