Gridiron Gridlock: Dong Zhiying Points Fingers as Students Left in Tears Over Bungled Football Registration
Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi-ying Memorial School’s Football Team Faces Uncertain Future
Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi-ying Memorial School’s football team is facing an uncertain future after the school’s application for the school football competition was rejected due to a late submission. The school’s principal, Huang Youjie, admitted that the mistake was due to the former physical education director’s failure to complete the handover process, resulting in the loss of all Grade A students’ registrations for the competition.
Principal Huang Youjie, along with school director Huang Ziwen and supervisor Huang Weijian, attended a “Voice Sharing Meeting for Football Students and Parents” to explain the situation. Huang Youjie apologized for the mistake and revealed that the former physical education director had been uncooperative throughout the process, even going so far as to claim that he had lost the password for the school’s academic experience registration system.
Huang Youjie also stated that the school had immediately tried to remedy the situation after discovering the mistake, but the Student Experience Council had refused to accept the late registration. He expressed his hope that the council would reconsider their decision, citing the fact that the students were innocent and should not be punished for the school’s administrative error.
School director Huang Ziwen described the academic elite competition as the “Golden Horse Award and Oscar” of the entertainment industry, emphasizing the importance of the competition for the students. He also pointed out that the competition would be attended by football club directors and scouts from Southeast Asia, providing a valuable opportunity for the students to showcase their talents.
Supervisor Huang Weijian regretted that the school union could not handle the situation more flexibly, using the metaphor of paying taxes to illustrate the importance of meeting deadlines. However, he also emphasized that the students should not be punished for the school’s mistake.
Members of the Dong Zhiying football team, including youth player Cheng Ruiqian, attended the sharing session and expressed their disappointment and frustration at the situation. Cheng Ruiqian, who is in Form 4, felt that the school’s efforts had been wasted and hoped that the school would change its decision and allow them to compete again.
The school has submitted an appeal to the Xue Ti Hui Middle School Council, and Principal Huang Youjie will attend a meeting via video conference to explain the situation. The outcome of the appeal is still uncertain, but the school remains hopeful that the council will reconsider their decision and allow the team to compete.
Consequences of Missing the Competition
If the school is unable to participate in the senior group competition, they will not only lose the qualification for the elite tournament but also risk being relegated to the D2 group. This would mean that the school would not be able to compete in the elite competition for two years, a prospect that is deeply disappointing for the students and staff.
The school’s football team has a long history of success, and the current team is eager to continue this tradition. However, the uncertainty surrounding their participation in the competition has cast a shadow over their preparations, and the team is eagerly awaiting the outcome of the appeal.
