Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit China on May 19 and May 20, 2026, according to confirmations from the Kremlin. The two-day visit follows a recent trip to Beijing by United States President Donald Trump.

“strengthen further the global partnership and strategic cooperation” between Moscow and Beijing.
reports indicate that President Putin has signed a decree to grant Russian citizenship in Transnistria.
Military Escalation in Kyiv
The diplomatic visit comes amid a surge in violence in Ukraine. Local sources report that Russian aerial raids on the capital city of Kyiv, which occurred during the night between May 13 and May 14, 2026, resulted in 24 deaths. Among the casualties were three adolescents.

These strikes took place 48 hours after the expiration of a truce that had been announced by President Donald Trump, which lasted from May 9 to May 11, 2026.
Ukrainian and American Reactions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the raids by stating that some officials in Moscow do not yet understand that Ukrainians will never surrender their independence. Zelensky asserted that Ukraine now possesses the right to conduct retaliatory attacks targeting the Russian defense sector and the oil industry.
President Donald Trump expressed concern that the recent attacks on Kyiv could impede ongoing peace efforts. Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One while returning from China, President Trump noted that he had discussed the conflict with President Xi Jinping and that both leaders agreed on the necessity of ending the fighting.
Regarding the timing of the escalation, President Trump stated:
“It is a matter that we would like to see resolved. Until last night, it seemed to be going well, but last night (the Ukrainians) suffered a hard blow.”
The upcoming summit between the Russian and Chinese leaders on May 19 and May 20, 2026, will take place as international efforts to resolve the conflict continue following the collapse of the brief May 9 to May 11 truce.
