Under the new law, it is an offense to sell or induce a person under the age of 21 to drink alcohol. The changes to the laws on alcohol consumption are part of a series of amendments to the law to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the UAE. In line with its 50th anniversary, the UAE is implementing reforms to prepare the country for the future.

These changes, brought about by changes in forty laws, are the largest legal reform in the history of the country in half a century. The country is implementing legal reforms in collaboration at the local and federal levels. Over the past five months, 540 experts from 50 governing bodies at the federal and local levels have worked hard to draft the law. They have also held talks with more than 100 private companies.
