Cheongung II, a ballistic missile interceptor system called the Korean Patriot, is manufactured by LIG Nex1 and Hanwha Systems in Gumi, respectively, with guided missiles, launch equipment, and radar.
It is a medium-range and medium-altitude surface-to-air interception system developed with domestic technology to simultaneously respond to ballistic missile and aircraft attacks, and has already been exported to the UAE worth 4.1 trillion won in 2022.
It is considered the core weapon of the Korean Air and Missile Defense (KAMD) system that responds to North Korean ballistic missiles by applying engagement control technology for ballistic missile interception, multi-function radar tracking technology, and precision seekers for multi-target engagement at the same time. .
Gumi City is Korea’s No. 1 manufacturing city in the fields of Cheongung, guided missiles, radar, surveillance and reconnaissance, and launchers. There are a large number of leading companies in the domestic defense industry, led by LIG Nex1 and Hanwha Systems. In April last year, it was designated as a defense industry innovation cluster.
