Taiwanese Media Reports Gunshots Near Hsiao Mei-chin’s Residence
Incident Unfolds as Police Apprehend Theft Suspect
Taiwan media outlets, including China Times News, reported on September 25 that gunshots were heard on Ren’ai Road, Yonghe District, New Taipei City, in the afternoon. The incident occurred near the residence of Hsiao Bi-chin, the deputy leader of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities. Fortunately, Hsiao Bi-chin was not present at the time of the incident.
According to reports, personnel from the Taiwan “Criminal Police Bureau” were tracking a theft suspect. The police fired three shots, causing no casualties, and the suspect was arrested on the spot. The suspect, a 28-year-old man surnamed Xie, was involved in a series of thefts and was found near Hsiao Bi-chin’s residence.
At 4:30 p.m. on the 25th, the Fourth Brigade of the Taiwan Criminal Police Bureau, the Taichung City Criminal Police Brigade, the Third Branch of the Taichung City Police Bureau, and the Dajia Branch Investigation Team investigated the theft case and apprehended the suspect. The police approached to arrest Xie, but he drove away, prompting the police to fire three shots at the tires of his vehicle. Xie abandoned his car and fled to a dead end, where he was arrested on the spot by the police.
Hsiao Bi-khim later posted on social media, “I was not at home when the gunfire occurred, and everything is fine.”
Further investigation revealed that the suspect, Xie, was involved in multiple robberies in central Taiwan and had driven north on the 25th to steal cables from a construction site. He was taken to the “Criminal Bureau” for investigation overnight.
The incident highlights the swift response of the Taiwanese authorities in apprehending the suspect and ensuring public safety.
