People’s Power Party lawmaker Ha Tae-kyung pointed out that the Democratic Party of Korea is opposing the nomination of Oceans and Fisheries Minister candidate Kang Do-hyeong due to his drunk driving conviction, saying: “Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myeong also had a drunk driving offense in the same year as candidate Kang.

Congressman Ha Tae-kyung said on Facebook on the 20th: “Drunk driving is not allowed. “The standards imposed on ministerial candidates should also be applied to members of the National Assembly. A minister should not drink and drive, but can a party leader drink and drive?”

Representative Ha Tae-kyung said: “The Democratic Party is saying that a candidate who was a drinking and driving thief 20 years ago should not become a minister. “A person who drives while intoxicated, which amounts to murder, is not eligible to become a minister,” he said. “I also agree.” However, these standards must apply equally to members of the governing and opposition parties in the National Assembly. He said: “We agree that the ruling and opposition parties ‘unconditionally exclude nominations for drunk drivers’ and decide on a candidate for robbery.”

Rep. Ha Tae-kyung said, “Candidate Kang Do-hyung was fined 1.5 million won for drunk driving in 2004. Party leader Lee Jae-myung was also fined 1.5 million won in 2004. Democrat, was sentenced to a fine of 1.5 million won for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.158%. He said: “The standard of being a member of the National Assembly but not a minister is a typical example of a narrow-minded person and a privilege for members of the National Assembly which should be eliminated.”

He continued: “In the current qualification screening of National Assembly candidates, the ruling and opposition parties have disqualified candidates for drunk driving more than twice in 10 years. “Drunk driving after 10 years was not considered a problem,” she said. “However, considering the social harm caused by drunk driving and the high moral standards of public officials, it is necessary to significantly strengthen this aspect.”

Rep. Ha Tae-kyung said, “Let us reach an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties to ban drunk drivers from holding appointed or elected public office within 20 years.” He added, “We will unconditionally exclude drunk drivers from nominations next year and also decide on the actions of thief-like candidates. “The public will not tolerate the double standard of being a member of the National Assembly but not a minister,” he said.

Candidate Kang revealed at the hearing the previous day (19th) that he had been caught driving with a hangover in the morning after drinking, relating to his history of drink driving in 2004.
