(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Koh Hyun-sik = The city of Seoul announced on the 30th that in connection with the collapse of the demolished building in Hak-dong, Gwangju, which occurred in June last year, the city of HDC Hyundai Development Co., Ltd. was administratively suspended for eight months for violating the Framework Act on the Construction Industry.
In June last year, the Seoul Metropolitan Government decided to take such an administrative action after submitting opinions and hearings to Hyundai Development Company in response to the request for administrative action from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in relation to the accident in which nine citizens died during demolition work in Hakdong Redevelopment District 4, Gwangju.
The reasons for the disposition are: ▲ The construction was constructed differently from the decommissioning plan and provided the cause of the collapse of the structure ▲ Violation of site management and supervision.
Hyundai Development Company is prohibited from engaging in business activities as a construction company, such as participating in bidding, for eight months after receiving administrative disposition. However, in the case of a construction project that has been initiated after a contract has been signed before receiving administrative disposition or has been approved in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, construction may be continued.
Separately, the city announced that it would consider strong measures, including cancellation of registration, within six months for the case of the ‘apartment collapse in Hwajeong-dong, Gwangju’.
