Half-Life 2 Celebrates 20 Years with Free Update and Documentary Release

November 16, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Tech

Valve’s classic game, Half-Life 2, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, Valve has released a new documentary and a significant game update.

Half-Life 2 debuted on November 16, 2004. The recent update adds new features, fixes bugs, and improves graphics. Players can now enjoy accessing the Steam Workshop through this update, allowing them to add levels, guns, and mods easily.

The update includes Lost Coast, Episode 1, and Episode 2 within the Half-Life 2 package, making all these games easily accessible in one place. Valve has also added developer commentary for Half-Life 2, featuring nearly four hours of insights from the original team.

In addition to these features, Valve made various smaller adjustments, such as better gamepad controls and auto-aim. There are also new graphical options related to blood splatter and HDR settings. Players who prefer the original version of Half-Life 2 can still access it on Steam.

For three days, from now until November 18, players can download Half-Life 2 for free on Steam. This is an excellent opportunity to experience one of the best games ever made, along with its vast array of mods.

Similarly, Valve released a major update for the original Half-Life in November 2023. Fans are eager to see what Valve plans for the upcoming anniversary of Portal, which launched in 2007.
