The family of freed Mexican hostage Ilana Gritzewsky is still dealing with the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.
Although the young woman is fine, her boyfriend Matan is still kidnapped.
“Ilana is physically there, but part of her life remained in Gaza. Half of Ilana is in Gaza. When you arrive and see her alive, you are grateful and know that you have her back, as the days go by she is doing well. At first it is difficult, there are no words to explain it. She returns but you know that her heart and her thoughts are still there,” said Miriam Cahmi, Ilana’s mother, in a virtual conference from Israel.

Accompanied by Chaim, her other son and Ilana’s brother, Miriam reported that the citizens of Israel have accompanied them and since then they have become closer.
Since October 7, Ilana and Matan’s family have grown closer, sharing experiences to cope with the tragedy, and both mothers eat together every day.
Chaim has also made efforts to remember his brother-in-law, as well as the 130 hostages still somewhere in Gaza.
Sometimes three months are enough to forget. “This started as a massacre, taking people out of their homes, killing people who were just at a festival, but it feels like it was yesterday,” added the young man, who dedicates himself to photographing pets and generating content for social networks.
In Israel, Jaim and Miriam joined the movement Bring them home now (Bring Them Home Now), which demands action for the return of all hostages.
My sister was among those kidnapped, she was released, but part of her stayed inside because her boyfriend Matan is still kidnapped. She still feels like half of her is inside,” Jaim shared.

When Ilana decides it’s time and is ready, she will tell what she thinks, but we are happy that she is here,” he added.
During the conference, organized by the Israeli Embassy in Mexico, Jaim showed two posters, one of them has Matan’s face, his name and his age, 24 years.
The other photograph is of Orión Hernández, the other Mexican kidnapped on October 7, at the Nova festival, held near the border with the Gaza Strip.
