Haliburton’s⁤ Game 6 Role in Doubt Due to Calf Strain

⁢ Updated June 18, 2025

indiana Pacers guard ⁣Tyrese Haliburton is battling a right calf strain, casting a shadow over his potential ⁣role in⁣ thursday’s crucial Game 6 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Haliburton said Wednesday he intends to play,⁤ but‍ the ⁢Pacers are also preparing⁢ for ⁢the possibility he will be sidelined.

“I have to understand⁣ the risks, ask the right questions,” ⁣Haliburton said. “But I’m a competitor. I want to play. I’m going to do everything in my power to play.”

Coach ⁤Rick Carlisle told reporters that Haliburton will be⁣ evaluated, and a decision on his availability will be made after testing. “He’ll go through⁣ the day ⁤tomorrow,” Carlisle said. “Our prep session is tomorrow late afternoon. they’ll get together and do some testing. That will determine weather he plays or not. If he doesn’t play, we have a plan, obviously, if we’re without ⁣him.”

Haliburton participated in a limited ⁢practice Wednesday, which included film study, a walk-through, and light shooting. He is undergoing various treatments, including hyperbaric chamber sessions, massage, and electronic stimulation, to alleviate the strain, confirmed by an MRI on Tuesday.

Carlisle had previously stated that Haliburton would likely be listed as questionable and ⁤that his status would be a game-time decision.

The injury worsened during Monday’s Game 5 loss, where ⁤Haliburton struggled, failing to score⁢ a field goal in 34 minutes. The Pacers lost 120-109, putting them in a 3-2 ⁣series deficit.

If Haliburton is unable to play, T.J. McConnell is expected to step into a starting role. McConnell’s performance in the ⁢playoffs, including a Game 5 rally, has been a⁤ radiant spot for Indiana.

“he is another ball handler, someone that can get us to our spots, push the pace,” Pacers forward Pascal Siakam said of McConnell. “He played great last game. He is going to be huge for us going forward too.”

Haliburton briefly left Game 5 with a wrapped leg⁢ but returned, leading the team ⁤in rebounds⁢ and assists in the second half.Though, his shooting was noticeably affected.

Forward Obi⁢ Toppin acknowledged the team’s ⁣resilience.”We got soldiers on this team,” Toppin said. “We’re going ‍to try to⁤ play through any type of injuries or anything. Ty is a soldier. He’s most likely going to be good.We don’t know yet.”

Throughout ‍the series, Haliburton is averaging 15.0 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.2 rebounds.

What’s next

The Pacers will continue to evaluate Haliburton’s condition leading up to ⁢game 6,with the hope that he can play a significant role despite the injury. The team’s ability to adjust their strategy and rely on‍ other⁣ players, like McConnell, will be crucial if Haliburton is limited or unable to participate.
