Hamdan Talent Scale identifies gifted students in UAE

The hamdan Talent Scale is a national initiative designed to identify and support gifted learners in the United Arab Emirates. Targeting students in grades 4 through 12, the program employs a culturally relevant and research-based approach.
Dr. Mariam Al Ghawi explained that the Hamdan Talent Scale combines international research with local values to comprehensively assess students’ intellectual, academic, and creative abilities. The Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation initiated the program.
The selection process involves three stages to ensure fairness. First, students are nominated by their schools or apply directly through the foundation’s website. Next,participants undergo assessments evaluating cognitive skills,creativity,and academic performance. those meeting the talent criteria are enrolled in long-term development programs.
According to al Ghawi, this process ensures accessibility across public and private schools in all seven emirates.
The Hamdan Talent Scale provides selected students with opportunities in STEM and arts enrichment. These include advanced academic tracks, innovation labs, national and international competitions, expert mentorship programs, and global collaboration.
These experiences aim to cultivate critical thinking, leadership, and creativity, which are key attributes for the UAE’s future innovators. Participation is free, with activities on weekends, school holidays, or during school visits. Development programs are structured to evolve over eight years.
The initiative is inclusive, welcoming students of all nationalities, and reflects the UAE’s vision for a future-ready education system.As its launch, the program has identified more than 2,200 talented students, with a target of 5,000 by 2030.
Beyond student support, the program invests in specialized teacher training, family awareness campaigns, and strategic school partnerships.These initiatives aim to create a national culture that celebrates and nurtures talent, aligning with the UAE Centennial Vision 2071.
“The test is a scientifically developed tool designed to identify gifted students in grades 4 through 12.
