The latest series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins saw two contestants, Louie Spence and Hannah Spearritt, withdraw in the very first episode, highlighting the brutal intensity of the course. The channel 4 show pushes celebrities to their absolute limits, simulating the grueling selection process of the Special Air Service.
Early Exits Signal Tough Challenge Ahead
Former TV dancer Louie Spence and S Club 7 singer hannah Spearritt were the first to succumb to the pressure. the initial challenges proved insurmountable for both, demonstrating the significant physical and mental demands of the course.
Before the second challenge even began, Spearritt, 44, made the difficult decision to hand over her number tag to the directing staff. “I’m done,I’m sorry,I’ve reached a point,” she stated. A pre-recorded interview played after her withdrawal revealed her apprehension, admitting, “I don’t think I’ll go on the first day” and expressing a fear of self-recrimination if she continued.
Spence’s exit was equally dramatic. During a hostage rescue scenario, he mistakenly threw a grenade into a building while two hostages remained inside. Following this critical error, he requested an immediate withdrawal. Despite being offered a second chance to reconsider, he firmly declined, stating, “I want to do an immediate withdrawal, I just don’t have the conviction, and I feel as though I’m not dedicated enough.” Instructors pointed out he “hadn’t even started,” a sentiment Spence acknowledged, reinforcing his decision.
Intense Challenges and Emotional Revelations
The first two tasks set a punishing pace. Contestants were promptly plunged into action, first completing a 26ft plunge into the water and swimming to intercept a waiting boat. This was followed by a complex hostage rescue operation culminating in the demolition of a building wiht a grenade - a task where Spence’s error occurred.
The show isn’t just about physical endurance; it’s also designed to break down emotional barriers. Following her withdrawal from the swimming challenge, former model Rebecca Loos was subjected to an intense interrogation by the directing staff, who pressed her to discuss her alleged affair with footballer david Beckham during her time as his personal assistant.
Similarly, former Watford striker Troy Deeney was pulled aside after the second task, where he also threw a grenade into the building before securing the hostages. He bravely opened up about the physical abuse he and his mother endured at the hands of his late father.
Unexpected Confidence and the Remaining Recruits
Not all celebrities doubted their abilities. Before the first task, Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash confidently declared the show would be “a piece of p**,” attributing her resilience to growing up as a queer person in Norfolk.
The remaining recruits facing the SAS challenge include ex-drug mule Michaella McCollum, former footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa, Strictly Come Dancing 2025 runner-up Tasha ghouri, former The Traitors winner Harry Clark, rapper Lady Leshurr, boxer Conor Benn, singer Lucy Spraggan, and Love Island alumni Chloe Burrows and Adam Collard.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins distinguishes itself from other reality competitions by not eliminating contestants through customary voting. Instead, individuals are ”culled” by the directing staff or choose to withdraw themselves. Those who persevere until the end are declared the winners, having demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins* continues on Channel 4 on Monday at 9pm.
