Jaewon Lee, who was released from SSG, wore a Hanwha uniform, and Hanwha Eagles recruited veteran catcher Jaewon Lee (36). On the 28th, Hanwha announced, “We signed a contract with veteran catcher Lee Jae-won for an annual salary of 50 million won.”

Lee Jae-won, who joined the SK Wyverns (SSG’s predecessor) in 2006 as a first round draft player, has only played for one team until this season. He played an active role as an offensive catcher with a career batting average of 0.278, 108 home runs, and 612 RBIs.

During this period, SK and SSG won the Korea Series five times, and Jaewon Lee also gained experience by wearing many championship rings.

He continued to play with a .280 batting average in 2021, but his batting average dropped to .201 last year, and he played only 27 games in the first team this season and had a career-low season with a .091 batting average.

Jaewon Lee expressed his intention to extend his active duty, but his interests did not align with SSG. In the end, he asked to be released and ended up wearing the uniform of Hanwha, who were looking for an experienced backup catcher.

Hanwha General Manager Son Hyeok said, “We decided that there was a lack of experienced catchers other than Choi Jae-hoon and Park Sang-eon, and that there was enough need to prepare for injuries and strengthen depth, so we recruited them. ” He added, “Jaewon Lee will be the catcher until prospect Heo In-seo returns from Sangmu in the second half of next season.” “I expect he will add weight to the jeans,” he said.

Jaewon Lee passed to Hanwha.
