Harmanpreet Kaur Disciplined for Hitting Stumps in Protest, Faces Suspension for Asian Games

Suspension Looms for Indian Women’s Cricket Captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, After Controversial Series

Mumbai, India

In the aftermath of a turbulent ODI series against Bangladesh, Indian women’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, finds herself facing potential suspension. Kaur’s frustration with a poor umpiring decision spilled over into an act of defiance as she struck the stumps, subsequently leading to public criticism of the umpire during the award ceremony.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) swiftly responded by imposing a hefty 75% fine on Kaur’s match fee and issuing her with four demerit points. These disciplinary actions come at a significant cost, as Kaur’s suspension jeopardizes her participation in India’s upcoming quarter-final match at the Asian Games, and potentially, their semifinal fixture as well.

Taking place between September 19 and 26, the women’s cricket matches at the Asian Games hold great importance for participants. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jai Shah, has confirmed that no appeal will be made against Kaur’s suspension, adhering to the ICC’s ruling.

Despite the ICC’s intervention, Kaur is set to face further inquiry in line with the BCCI’s special directives, ensuring a thorough examination of the incident.
