US Presidential Election: A Closer Look at the Televised Debate

As soon as the televised debate of the U.S. presidential election ended, certain U.S. media reported overwhelmingly that Harris’ performance was far better than Trump’s. Some media also said that Trump was “irritated” and would fail.

Whether they are well-known American media, commentators, analysts or polling agencies, in addition to “investigating” and “analyzing” the election situation, they can actually “manipulate” public opinion and “influence” the results. Since the U.S. presidential election involves major interests, these people and institutions are “involved” in it. We should be skeptical of the comments, analyzes and investigations they make, and we should not trust them entirely.

Watching the entire debate, Harris was clearly well-prepared. She had corresponding responses to Trump’s often-spoken remarks, and continued to make effective personal attacks. She was still expressive even when she was not speaking. She did better than expected. It is reported that Harris’s team has been practicing for this TV debate recently. There are people who specialize in studying Trump’s remarks, and there are even designated consultants to “play” Trump, so that Harris can know how to confront him tit for tat.

Did Harris Really Win the Debate?

Strictly speaking, she just didn’t make a fool of herself, and she didn’t leave anything to criticize. However, based on her performance during the debate, Harris was actually worse than Biden.

Biden’s performance in the first televised debate was only slightly worse than Trump’s, but it was not as bad as the media said. Biden was not defeated during the debate. His real “cause of death” was that he was seen getting lost after finishing the debate. Of course, Biden was obviously exhausted during the debate that lasted more than 1.5 hours, and he was a little out of breath when he spoke.

As for Harris, although she is younger than Trump, she still does not have the aura to “press the crowd” at all. It is worth noting that Trump can talk endlessly and eloquently on any topic, and has been stopped and interrupted by the host many times. On the contrary, Harris clearly knew the dialogue that she had agreed on early in the morning by heart. In addition to her confident performance at the beginning, she was at a loss for words after the intermission. The two hosts who “supported” her had to “smooth things out” for her many times, either saying that the time had just arrived, or hurriedly opening a new issue.

The Impact of the Televised Debate on the Election

So, what impact will the entire televised debate have on the election? First, neither Trump nor Harris has lost or won. They did not lose their “basic base” because of this. Secondly, they also failed to win the support of “swing states” or “middle voters”.

In other words, Trump just maintained his usual style and did not really confront Harris. Some media reports that he is “irrational” or “roaring” are not true. This is not the first time that the media has wronged him like this. Back then, when he was debating with Hillary, the American media made similar remarks. In fact, Trump’s debate strategy was relatively conservative, so it did not anger “middle voters.” On the other side, Harris behaved quite well, and of course she did not offend the “middle voters.” Although the “television debate” is an important part of the US presidential election, it currently does not play a decisive role.

A Neutral Perspective

the author is by no means a “big fan” of Trump, and I don’t even want him to be elected. From China’s perspective, Trump’s platform is more in line with the overall interests of the United States, and is also more detrimental to China. If he is elected, the only benefit to China is that given the current international situation, Trump will no longer be able to “join Russia to resist China.” If Trump is elected, he will only be in office for four years, and it will be difficult for any country to have “heart-to-heart relations” with the United States. In addition, even if Trump’s policies are better for the United States, if they involve “drastic” reforms, they will also need to “cleanse” the inherent power of the Democratic Party in the bureaucracy on a large scale before they can be truly “implemented.”

On the contrary, the U.S. Democratic Party’s foreign, military and financial policies are in a mess, and its “dollar status” is being eroded step by step without even realizing it. It may be more beneficial to China to allow the U.S. Democratic Party to remain in power.
