Louisville Metro Police arrested 18-year-old Zion White Thursday evening in connection with the August 23 double shooting at Louisville’s Family Scholar House. White faces two counts of murder following the deaths of 20-year-olds Trinity Durham and Iyanna Warr, who were friends and young mothers participating in the program.
Arrest and Court Appearance
According to LMPD spokesperson Christopher Baker, White was arrested September 24 in the 3500 block of Vermont Avenue in the Shawnee neighborhood by members of the department’s Fugitive Unit, Homicide Unit and SWAT. He appeared in court for his arraignment Friday morning, where he entered a not guilty plea, and a judge set his bond at $500,000.
Court documents show White previously faced charges in October, when he was 17, including kidnapping a minor, terroristic threatening, and other gun-related charges. He was released to house arrest under certain conditions a month later, but after violating those conditions, he was ordered to be taken back into custody by February.
Shooting Investigation and Reactions
Durham and Warr were pronounced dead shortly after UofL Police responded to a report of shots fired early August 23 at the Family Scholar House, a nonprofit located near the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus. The incident prompted the university to issue a shelter-in-place alert.

Family Scholar House President and CEO Cathe Dykstra released a statement thanking Chief Humphrey, the Louisville Metro Police Department, UofL’s police force, and law enforcement professionals. No further details about the shootings have been made available, and Baker stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
