Health services for foreigners are restricted in Kuwait

Kuwait City: Free health services provided to foreigners in Kuwait are being restricted. Officials are considering reducing the additional financial costs facing the health ministry. As part of this, the local newspaper reported that the Ministry of Health was conducting a study to reduce the cost of treatment for foreigners.

The committee was tasked with studying the possibilities of reducing the supply of drugs to hospitals and investigating whether more drugs are being dispensed than is needed. It plans to cut costs by at least 10 percent. The reform will not affect treatment services under insurance coverage, especially surgical appointments, while restricting the dispensing of drugs unnecessarily in trivial cases.

There are also plans to send Kuwaitis abroad for treatment and to impose restrictions. It is planned to send only those abroad for serious cases, to provide treatment here in cases where treatment is available in Kuwait, and to find at least 30 per cent less in the current situation where natives are taken abroad for treatment.
