Helmut Marko Rules Out Daniel Ricciardo Exit Amid Speculation

Red Bull F1 consultant Helmut Marko has ruled out the possibility of Daniel Ricciardo leaving the RB team before the next F1 race in Emilia Romagna. A difficult opening round of the 2024 F1 season for Ricciardo has led to speculation that he could soon be kicked out of the RB team.

Liam Lawson, who hopes to be promoted full-time, competed in five races last year as a replacement for Ricciardo, who injured his wrist at the Dutch Grand Prix. His impressive performance as a substitute impressed many and Lawson claimed the right to drive full-time. However, Marko is adamant that Lawson and Ricciardo will not be replaced at Imola next weekend. “The rumors about replacing Ricciardo and Liam Lawson at Imola make no sense,” Marko wrote in his Speedweek column. “Liam’s manager is from New Zealand and apparently he has a dream and it has been communicated to him through various media, including in New Zealand. Absolutely nothing is planned at Imola.” But Marko hinted that Lawson might have an opportunity, saying: “Of course I will consider him in the future.” Confused by his form in Miami, Ricciardo’s lackluster season was reversed in Miami, where he finished fourth in the sprint race and received praise from Marco as a result. “Daniel also had a great performance in the sprints,” said Marko. “Fourth place was a sensation and he set a time in sector three.” This sector is mainly made up of slow corners and if you drive precisely there you can make incredible times. And because he is slow, he will be doubly punished if he makes a mistake.” However, with all eyes on qualifying and the Grand Prix, Marko wonders about Ricciardo’s decline in form. “Three hours after finishing fourth, Ricciardo made a mistake.” “Ricciardo started late in qualifying and was eliminated in Q1. But not only that, Ricciardo was unable to catch up in the race.“ Tsuyoshi was consistently setting fast times, but Ricciardo lacked speed and confidence.
