[마이데일리 = 최병진 기자] Sofiane Amrabat (Fiorentina) transfers to Fenerbahce.

European football transfer market expert Fabricio Romano said on the 30th (Korean time), “Fiorentina and Fenerbahce have agreed on a transfer to Amrabat. A four-year contract has been signed, and Fiorentina will receive a loan fee of 2 million euros (about 3 billion won), and the full transfer amount includes an add-on clause of 3 million euros (about 4.5 billion won).”

Amrabat attracted the attention of big clubs by causing a stir in Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Amrabat was in charge of build-up based on his unique stable passing ability and developed attacks by decompressing through dribbling. He also controlled the midfield by blocking the opponent’s attacks with his outstanding activity level.

Amrabat was considered a key player in Morocco, which made history as the first African team to reach the semifinals, and joined Manchester United last summer. Manchester United manager Erik Ten Haag, who wanted to strengthen the midfield, gave high marks to Amrabat’s ability and succeeded in signing him on loan.

However, Amrabat failed to show the performance they showed in the World Cup. Rather, they became the target of criticism for providing an excuse for conceding goals due to frequent missed passes in the midfield, and rising star Kobi Mainu rose to the starting lineup.

Amrabat wanted to stay, but Manchester United chose to part ways with Amrabat after the season ended. They decided not to extend the loan or make it permanent. Manchester United looked for a more reliable third-line midfielder and chose Manuel Ugarte (Paris Saint-Germain) as their top priority.

Although he failed to stay at Manchester United, Premier League teams continued to show interest in Amrabat. Crystal Palace and Fulham showed interest in signing him, even sending scouts to check Amrabat’s performance. However, Amrabat ultimately left the Premier League and continued his career in Turkey.

Fenerbahce made headlines this summer when they brought in Jose Mourinho. They also strengthened their squad by bringing in Allan Saint-Maximin, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Caglar Soyuncu. They are also looking to make a mark in the transfer market with Amrabat.
