Heroes in Uniform: Newly Issued Vietnam War Veterans Uniforms & 60th Anniversary Commemoration

The so-called “hero uniform,” which was issued to 35,000 Korean War veterans last year, will also be issued to Vietnam War veterans.

The Department of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 1st: “To commemorate the 60th anniversary of participation in the Vietnam War, we plan to provide newly produced uniforms to all 175,000 living veterans beginning on the 1st.” Seizing the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice as an opportunity, last year the Ministry of Veterans Affairs launched the “Heroes of Uniform” program, which produces and distributes group summer uniforms for Korean War veterans of Korea with the aim of strengthening respect for veterans and increasing social awareness of respect for heroes. ‘The project has been implemented. In June last year, President Yoon Seok-yeol personally donated these uniforms to Korean War veterans.

Expanding on the “Heroes of Uniform” project, the new uniforms for Vietnam War veterans are nearly identical to the uniforms for Korean War veterans and consist of an outerwear (jacket), pants, and a tie. The detailed design, including color, is being finalized and the budget is 21.9 billion won. The uniforms will be delivered directly to each home by postal workers across the country from July to December.

Veterans Affairs Minister Kang Jeong-ae said: “‘Heroes in Uniform’ is a very significant project that not only increases the pride of those who have served the country, but also conveys to them the respect and gratitude of the nation”. we will do our best in the new year to spread veteran culture,” he said.
