Kochi: The High Court has asked the private company which gave permission to advertise that it would provide a helicopter service to visit Sabarimala. The Devaswom Bench’s question was when it was considering a case taken voluntarily by the High Court on the basis of an advertisement on the Heli Kerala website in a special sitting. The Devaswom Board told the court that it had not given permission to provide a helicopter service or to advertise. The case was heard by a division bench of Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajith Kumar.

The court’s question to the Devaswom Board was what action was taken against the company as the area that includes Sabarimala is a Special Security Zone. The court blamed why no action was taken even after knowing about the incident. Heli Kerala company told the court that it will not take further action on the advertisement. But the court replied that they should face a case from the police. The central government decided in court that the incident was a serious matter. The Center said that the position of the Ministry of Environment should be sought as it includes a protected forest area. The central government has informed the court that it needs more time to respond.

What authority does Sabarimala have to offer VIP darshan, the court asked. The court pointed out that there is a court order to prevent even illegal vehicles from entering and that this affects security. Yesterday, when the court took up the matter, the Devaswom Board informed that the advertisement was not given deliberately. The court also asked the Center whether the service is being operated with the permission of the Union Aviation Administration.

The Kerala Heli Company had advertised through its website that it was running two services from Kochi to Sabarimala. The company’s offer was car service from Nilakkal to Pampa, dolly service from there and VIP darshan at Sabarimala. The Devaswom Bench of the High Court took cognizance of the company’s illegal advertisement when even private vehicles were not allowed and immediately intervened in the matter. The case was adjourned for a hearing on Monday.
