High-Risk Passenger Detected at Auckland Airport with Meth-Soaked Clothing in Luggage

A traveller who landed at Auckland International Airport appeared in court yesterday after two dozen items of clothing in his suitcase had been soaked in methamphetamine.
The first-time visitor was referred for a baggage search last Friday after arriving on a flight from Vancouver.
Customs officers tested the contents of his suitcase and found 26 items of clothing to be positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
Auckland Airport Customs manager Paul Williams said it was a “complex concealment” which showed the lengths criminals would go to evade detection.
“Thanks to our officers’ excellent attention to detail and increasingly sophisticated passenger targeting, we have ways to identify high-risk passengers such as this individual.”
The man was scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday charged with the importation of a Class A drug.
