Kaiser Permanente reports its technology systems are operational again after a network disruption impacted facilities and patients nationwide. The outage, attributed to an issue at one of Kaiser’s data centers, lasted most of Wednesday.
In other health IT news, ravi patel, MD, has been named VP and chief health informatics officer for healthcare delivery at oak Street Health.Simultaneously occurring, Jay Sultan has joined motive Medical Intelligence as executive vice president of product strategy and management.
Houston Healthcare in Georgia will transition from Meditech Magic to Epic as part of its integration with Emory Healthcare. Boone County Hospital in Iowa has gone live on Meditech Expanse. several providers and government agencies in Austin and Travis County, Texas, are now connected to Watershed Health’s health facts exchange and care coordination platform. UF Health St.Johns in Florida has also implemented Epic.
At a recent State of the Federal EHR event, Department of Defence health officials shared IT updates, including plans to implement virtual visit capabilities across the department and the US Coast Guard. The DoD is also collaborating with the VA on a joint tele-critical care application and exploring the addition of ambient dictation capabilities to MHS Genesis.
BayCare Health System in Florida will pay $800,000 to settle potential HIPAA violations related to a 2018 data breach. The breach involved an unauthorized user accessing a patient’s medical records, taking photographs and videos, and sharing the information with the patient.
