The AfD’s main candidate in Thuringia canceled his participation in a televised debate at short notice. Björn Höcke has now stated this publicly.
After canceling a televised round, Thuringia’s AfD main candidate, Björn Höcke, appeared at a campaign event in Nordhausen. “Friends, I am lively,” Höcke said in front of hundreds of spectators in the northern Thuringian city. He said he had recovered from a virus and stressed several times that he was in top shape. “If I get on a racing bike here today, I can reach the Brocken in less than three hours,” he said. At a height of 1,141 meters, the Brocken in the Harz is the highest mountain in Saxony-Anhalt.
Höcke said it was a virus that made him stay close to sanitary facilities. In his speech, the 52-year-old criticized the media claiming that democracy no longer works.
The press spokesman for the Thuringian AfD, Torben Braga, had already announced before the broadcast that Höcke would have recovered on Thursday. According to ntv, Höcke had already canceled his participation on Monday, agreed again on Tuesday and then finally canceled on Wednesday morning.
