Honda Motor Invests in OMC Power’s Renewable Energy Expansion

Japanese automotive ⁣giant Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has taken⁤ a minority stake, estimated between 5% and 10%, in indian renewable energy company OMC Power, according to industry⁢ sources reported by Livemint on October 26, 2023. This investment supports OMC‍ Power’s aspiring plan to develop ‌a 1​ gigawatt (GW) renewable energy portfolio across India.

OMC Power’s‍ Diversified Renewable Energy⁤ Strategy

OMC Power is focusing ‌on ‌five distinct segments to achieve its 1 GW ‌target. ⁢ Here’s a breakdown of the ⁣company’s planned capacity additions:

• Healthcare: 75 ‍MWp (Megawatt peak) capacity ‌dedicated to providing ⁢power to customers in the healthcare sector.
• Telecom: ​ Approximately 200 MWp will be added to ⁣serve ‍the telecom industry,building⁣ on an existing 15 MWp‌ capacity supplying power to telecom tower companies.
• Smart Grids (Rural Areas): ⁤An additional 100 ‌MWp‌ will be deployed to enhance smart grid infrastructure in ⁤rural areas, ⁤increasing operational capacity ⁣to 10 MWp.
• MSME‍ & C&I (Commercial & Industrial): 100 MWp will be added​ in the solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and ‌Construction) space, targeting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Commercial & Industrial customers, starting with an initial 5⁤ mwp.
• Fifth Segment: A new segment will launch next month (November 2023) with ⁤the​ integration of two officials from Honda Motor into the OMC Power management team, bringing specialized technical expertise.

These projects will be concentrated in the states of​ Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, jharkhand, Assam, and the northeastern states of India, regions with meaningful potential for renewable energy development.
