Hong Kong customs officials confiscated about 9 kilograms of suspected narcotics Friday in San Tin,near Yuen Long,according to the Customs and Excise Department. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is HK$8.8 million (US$1.12 million).
During the operation, officers intercepted a 27-year-old man acting suspiciously. A search revealed approximately 1.1 kg of suspected crack cocaine in a thermal bag he was carrying. The man, who claimed to be unemployed, was promptly taken into custody.
Following the arrest, authorities escorted the suspect to a nearby village house. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of an additional 4.7 kg of suspected cocaine and about 3.2 kg of suspected crack cocaine, along with packaging materials.
The suspect faces two counts of trafficking in risky drugs. He is scheduled to appear in fanling Court on Monday.
