Zheng Yanxiong Expected to Join National People’s Congress Committee

Zheng Yanxiong, who previously served as Beijing’s liaison office chief in Hong Kong, is anticipated to assume a high-ranking position within the National People’s Congress (NPC), according to sources familiar with the matter.
Zheng was abruptly removed from his post as director of Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong on May 31.He is now expected to be appointed Executive Deputy Director of the NPC Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee, sources said.
This new role will allow Zheng to maintain his rank as a full minister. One source indicated that Zheng arrived in Beijing and commenced work with the NPC. His appointment is expected to be formally approved at the NPC Standing Committee meeting later this month.
Before his departure, Zheng reportedly sent a poem to pro-Beijing politicians he collaborated with in Hong Kong, according to a source who requested anonymity.

The NPC Standing Committee is expected to formally endorse Zheng’s appointment at its meeting in the second half of this month, solidifying his transition to this new role within China’s legislative body.
