How an Apple Watch Saved a Man’s Life: A Personal Health Journey
A man from London, Steven Luemba, believes his Apple Watch may have saved his life. He bought the watch in 2019 while working in interior design. In 2020, while watching EastEnders, his watch alerted him to a heart issue.
On TikTok, he shared his experience, saying, “Because of this watch, I’m now on tablets to thin my blood.” He described receiving a notification that urged him to seek medical attention. He was surprised since he felt healthy at the time.
After consulting with doctors, he was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (Afib), an irregular heartbeat condition. Doctors informed Steven that without treatment, he could have faced a stroke.
Steven considers himself fit; he eats well and exercises, and he does not smoke or drink excessively. He said, “If my watch didn’t pick this up, it could have changed my life entirely. I’m forever grateful.”
He chose to undergo surgery to avoid taking blood thinners or beta blockers for life. He now focuses on reducing stress, getting enough sleep, and eating healthily. “I prioritize myself now,” he stated, reflecting on his past tendency to meet the needs of others first.
All Apple Watch Series 4 models and later can track heart rate. However, Apple advises that the watch is not a medical device and should not replace professional medical advice.
