How President Yoon’s Approval Ratings Plummeted After Failed Summit Meeting Proposal

◀ Again ▶

President Yoon, who had rarely tried to reach out to the opposition even after a crushing defeat in the general election, today’s proposal for a summit meeting was shocking.

Even when he announced his position on the general election defeat just three days ago, his willingness to communicate with the opposition party was not clearly expressed.

However, it seems that the public opinion against the government can no longer be ignored, as for two days in a row the government’s approval rating has been revealed, which has plummeted to its lowest level since he took office .

This was reported by journalist Kang Yeon-seop.

This morning, a ceremony commemorating the 64th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution was held.

Leaders of the ruling and opposition parties gathered in one place, but President Yoon Seok-yeol was nowhere to be seen.

“I find it very unfortunate that the President did not participate in the Revolution Remembrance Day on April 19 immediately after the general elections.”

The President’s Office denied this, saying: “During his tenure, the President attended memorial ceremonies only once, and it is not at all true that he was reluctant to meet the leader of the opposition party.”

However, despite the ruling party’s unprecedented defeat in the general election, President Yoon has not been proactive in showing his willingness for communication and cooperation.

Three days ago, in his speech to the Council of Ministers, when he directly expressed his position on the results of the general elections, he ordered the members of the Council of State to collaborate with the “National Assembly” instead of using the term “party of opposition”.

“The government will have to work closely with the National Assembly and take responsibility for what it can do.”

The choice of the prime minister’s successor and chief of staff was also postponed indefinitely, and while opposition figures were also criticized, the so-called “secret election dispute” arose, revealing a rather “staff disorder” what a reform.

The consequences of repeated regressions were clearly reflected in government approval ratings.

President Yoon’s “state administration rating” hit a low of 27% in the NBS National Index survey yesterday, and in today’s Gallup Korea survey, the positive rating of his job performance plummeted 11 percentage points in three weeks at 23%, also the lowest since he took office.

Negative reviews also reached their highest level since the administration came into power, at 68%.

Finally, a third-term ruling party member volunteered for a press conference and raised his voice, saying, “Impeachment must be prevented through the power of public opinion.”

“At this moment, when the last hope of overcoming the crisis with the help of public opinion remains, the president and the party must commit to renewal.”

It was not until almost two years after taking office that the President was given the opportunity to meet with the leader of the main opposition party on pending national issues.

Beyond the significance of the meeting itself, attention is being paid to whether it could produce results that reflect public sentiment in the general election.
