Brenton Passmore, 32, of Crofton, Md.,faces driving under the influence charges following the incident,according to maryland State Police.
Troopers from the Waterloo Barrack responded to the scene around 2:02 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash involving one of their own.A preliminary investigation revealed that an on-duty trooper, parked on the left shoulder in an unmarked vehicle, was struck from behind. Subsequently, a Jeep Cherokee collided with the trooper’s vehicle.
The impact caused the Jeep to veer into the roadway, were it was then hit by a GMC pickup truck, followed by a Lincoln SUV and a Volkswagen. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity.
A Jeep passenger and the state trooper were transported to a shock trauma center for treatment. The trooper has since been released. The driver of the GMC pickup was also hospitalized for injuries.
