Huawei to Unveil New Product After Apple’s iPhone 16 Release
Following Apple’s announcement of the latest iPhone 16 release on September 9, China’s Huawei has revealed plans to launch a new product immediately after.
Huawei, currently outselling Apple in China due to patriotic consumer spending, appears to be gearing up to counter Apple’s new product announcements.
Apple’s iPhone 16 series is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) functions, generating higher market expectations than ever.
Huawei has announced a new product launch event on September 10, right after Apple’s latest lineup unveiling in the United States.
Although the specifics of Huawei’s new product are unclear, Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business, stated that the company will “unveil leading, innovative and disruptive products.”
Yu added, “After five years of investment, Huawei has turned science fiction into reality.”
Huawei was once the world’s largest smartphone maker but faced setbacks due to U.S. sanctions blocking access to cutting-edge semiconductors.
However, the company has made significant strides in developing its own semiconductors and releasing the latest mobile phones, ultimately surpassing Apple in market share.
According to data firm Canalys, Chinese companies such as Vivo, Oppo, Honor (Huawei’s mobile phone subsidiary), Huawei, and Xiaomi ranked 1st to 5th in the Chinese mobile phone market share rankings in the second quarter.
In contrast, Apple ranked 6th with a market share of 14%, marking the first time the company has fallen out of the top 5 since entering China.
