Annabel Yao,the youngest daughter of Huawei founder Ren ⁢Zhengfei, has successfully completed her scholarship at Harvard University,a feat she acknowledges as fortunate given the US goverment’s previous attempts to restrict foreign student enrollment. Yao, who has also ventured into the entertainment industry, shared her relief at having finished her ‌studies before potential US immigration policy ⁢changes could have impacted her academic journey.

A timely Graduation

In a recent video shared on the Douyin platform, Yao‍ was seen at an airport, fielding questions from fans. When asked about the Trump management’s efforts to⁤ prohibit international students from studying in the US, she responded, “Oh yes, I found out. Fortunately, I⁢ have graduated.” This statement highlights the precarious situation faced by many international students during that period.

Yao, affectionately known by fans as “huawei’s daughter,” ⁤earned her⁢ bachelor’s degree in⁢ computer science from Harvard in 2020. ‍When questioned about achieving perfect scores on the ACT,⁣ a standardized test for university admissions in the ⁣US and Canada, she dismissed it as “old news,” ⁣indicating her focus‍ has shifted‌ beyond her academic ⁤achievements.

The US Student Ban ‌Context

The ‍Trump administration ⁣had indeed sought to prevent international students from entering ⁣the US for⁢ studies at institutions like Harvard or participating in exchange programs, proposing‍ a ban of at least six months. The‌ administration also considered revoking visas for⁤ registered foreign students, which would have forced them to‌ transfer to other institutions or⁤ face potential deportation.

During ⁢the 2024-25 academic year, ⁢approximately 6,800 international students were enrolled at Harvard, making up about 27% of the total student body. Fortunately, these restrictive measures were ultimately blocked⁣ by US District ⁢Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston, who issued⁤ a court order preventing the government from ⁣enforcing them.

Annabel Yao: Beyond Academia

Annabel Yao, 27, also known as Anna Yao or Yao Siwei, ⁤is the⁣ daughter of Ren⁢ Zhengfei⁢ and his second wife, ‌Yao Ling. Since graduating from Harvard, she has been exploring a career in the⁤ entertainment world.

In March, yao made her first public ⁣appearance associated with her ‍father’s company, Huawei, being introduced as a new ‍face for the company’s‌ folding smartphone, the Temple X, on Huawei’s official Weibo account. This move signals a potential integration of her public profile with the‌ family’s tech empire.
