[디지털투데이 AI리포터] The media IT Phone Arena reported on the 18th (local time) that Huawei is developing a product to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro space computer headset.

According to the Chinese social media site Weibo, the name of this product is “Huawei Vision”. It is expected to weigh 350g, which is lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro.

Huawei Vision will feature a Sony 4K Micro OLED panel, but it is reported that it does not have features like Apple’s EyeSight. EyeSight is a feature that allows others to see your eyes while you use the headset. This way you won’t feel disconnected from the outside world even while using the headset.

Current rumors suggest that Huawei will likely rely on its own chips developed by its HiSilicon semiconductor division. However, it is difficult to know how Huawei can guarantee cutting-edge chips. Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) equipment is needed to produce cutting-edge flagship system-on-chips (SoCs), but SMIC, China’s largest foundry, is unable to secure EUV equipment due of US sanctions. However, SMIC is expected to be able to produce 5 nanometer (nm) chips for Huawei starting later this year using the EUV lithography equipment it currently has.

Meanwhile, Huawei launched the Mate 60 series equipped with 5G chips in August 2020. However, Apple Vision Pro has an advantage in performance, including the M2 and R1 chips.

In this situation, Huawei plans to gain a new competitive advantage through its own space computer headset, which costs only half the weight and price of the Vision Pro. The expected price is about $1,750 (about 2.33 million won ) and Huawei Vision is expected to be competitive in the market even if it has half the performance of Apple’s Vision Pro.
