Jackman’s Hollywood Bowl concert paid homage to diamond, Peter Allen, and P.T. Barnum, figures who have inspired his career.
Jackman, 56, channeled Diamond’s “Hot August night” energy, later performing a medley of Peter allen tunes, a role he embodied in Broadway’s “The Boy From Oz.” He also revisited P.T. Barnum, the character he played in “The Greatest Showman,” a film whose soundtrack achieved quadruple-platinum status. Jackman told the crowd that if they hadn’t seen “The Greatest Showman,” they might think he was super-confident.
The success of “The Greatest Showman” highlights the rarity of Jackman’s theatrical style in contemporary pop music. While women have largely dominated the “theatre-kid” moment, jackman’s performance stands out, especially considering his fame as Wolverine.
