Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is offering lucky financial app users a month of free rent and all-expenses-paid festival trips, even as his own luxury New York City apartment remains on the market for just under $29 million, according to realestate.com.au.

The 57-year-old actor, widely known for his role as Wolverine, teamed up with Bilt founder Ankur Jain for the company’s “Rent Free” game show. The digital platform challenges celebrity guests to perform tasks that secure free rent for platform members. Jackman’s participation coincides with his upcoming appearance as host of the Global Citizen Festival, scheduled for Sept. 26 on Central Park’s Great Lawn, where organizers expect roughly 60,000 attendees to gather in support of initiatives aimed at combating extreme poverty.

Global Citizen Partnership and Festival Details

Jackman has maintained an active role with Global Citizen since 2008, when he first met organization founder Hugh Evans. Speaking to Jain during the game show appearance, the actor described the initiative as a movement capable of uniting people across different demographics to solve global poverty.

It was one of those moments when I realized, this is a movement, this is a whole different way of making change, bringing people together, where it doesn’t matter how old you are, what job you have, how much money you have. Everyone, particularly as a group, can solve extreme poverty. So I just got onboard. Hugh Jackman

In addition to the rent-relief promotion, the collaboration between Bilt and Global Citizen offers platform members access to festival tickets, with ticket proceeds directed to the charity. Three members and their guests will also win an all-expenses-paid VIP weekend in New York City, featuring flights, hotel stays, and early festival access. A limited co-branded collection through The Bilt Collection will also direct proceeds to the cause, alongside a new feature allowing members to donate accumulated loyalty points directly to Global Citizen.

Global Citizen co-founder and CEO Hugh Evans emphasized the scale of the campaign.

Ending extreme poverty has never been the work of a few large donors. It’s millions of people choosing to act, over and over. What Bilt facilitates is a way for that choice to fit into something people already do every month, which is exactly how movements grow. Hugh Evans

The current campaign centers on three primary goals: helping enroll 2 million children in school, supporting 1.5 million smallholder farmers, and bringing electricity to 2.5 million homes.

New York Real Estate Market Context

Jackman’s involvement in a rent-focused promotion arrives amid ongoing efforts to sell his own upscale New York City residence, which carries a price tag just under $29 million, according to realestate.com.au.

In March, the actor listed the sprawling five-bedroom apartment for $28.75 million, less than a year after finalizing his divorce from ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness. Jackman and Furness originally purchased the dwelling for $21 million in 2008. They initially tried to sell the property in June 2022 for $38.9 million—more than a year before announcing their separation—though that listing was eventually removed before the property returned to the market at the reduced price.
