Hunter Fejes, a 32-year-old American hockey forward who helped lead HC Dynamo Pardubice to the Czech extraliga title last season, has announced his retirement from professional hockey due to medical recommendations, sport.cz reported. Doctors advised him against continuing his career after he encountered new health complications, following a prior successful battle against a lymphatic system tumor four years ago.
Medical Advice and Career Interruption
Fejes joined Pardubice in December of last year initially on a one-month stint from Prešov, before the club activated an option to retain him through the end of the season. He appeared in 24 games for the eastern Bohemian club’s top team, including the playoffs, recording three goals and two assists. His most notable contribution came during the sixth and final game of the championship series, where he scored the equalizing goal to make it 1-1, helping Dynamo defeat Třinec 5-4 in overtime to capture the club’s seventh extraliga title.
Following the championship run, Fejes featured in only one extraliga fixture and four Champions Hockey League games for Pardubice this season. He subsequently moved to Zlín on a dual-registration arrangement to secure more playing time, but various health issues prevented him from appearing in a single contest for the team.
International Career and Prior Health Battles
Before arriving in the Czech Republic, Fejes accumulated five seasons of experience in North America’s American Hockey League farm system. His professional journey also included stops in Slovakia, Austria, and Sweden.
His retirement arrives four years after he successfully underwent treatment for a lymphatic system tumor. When fresh physical ailments emerged this season, attending physicians recommended that he stop playing entirely rather than risk further complications.
