Art Scene Thrives in Athens
Sofia Rozaki’s symbolic works blend ancient forms with everyday rituals,
local and global perspectives, and historical motifs through contemporary
visuals. Her compositions explore identity, memory, trauma, and sexuality,
imagining alternative futures.
Danae Io’s work reflects on the impact of politics and economics in
Greece, examining surveillance, infrastructure, and historical memory.
Through film and sculpture, she explores the decline of thebes, drawing
parallels between past and present. Her installations reveal how economic
systems shape and control human behavior.
The DESTE Foundation plays a key role in promoting contemporary Greek art
through exhibitions and initiatives like the DESTE Prize. “In a bright
Green Field” builds on the legacy of earlier exhibitions like “the Same
River Twice and The Equilibrists” (2016).
