ELLABELL, Ga. — hyundai Motor Group has commenced production at its new $7.6 billion electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), located in Bryan County, Georgia. The facility represents Hyundai’s first dedicated EV mass-production site.
The plant, located approximately three hours from Georgia Tech, spans 11.76 million square meters. The plant will initially produce the IONIQ 5 adn the IONIQ 9.
Hyundai plans to increase the plant’s production capacity from 300,000 vehicles per year to 500,000. The company also intends to expand the lineup to include Kia and Genesis models.
Investment and Expansion
Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to invest $21 billion over the next four years in the United States. The investment will be allocated as follows:
- $8.6 billion in automobiles
- $6.1 billion in parts, logistics, and steel
- $6.3 billion in future industries and energy
With the addition of HMGMA, Hyundai Motor Group aims to establish a total production capacity of 1.2 million units in the U.S., including the Hyundai Motor Alabama plant (360,000 units) and the Kia Georgia Plant (340,000 units).
