Recently, mucus that looked like snot was discovered in a certain can of beer purchased at a large warehouse supermarket. Capture from JTBC’s ‘Case Leader’

There is controversy over a specific brand of canned beer produced and sold domestically producing a thick mucus like snot.

Mr. A, who reported this fact to JTBC’s ‘Incidence Team Leader’ on the 3rd, purchased 3 boxes of 24 cans of beer at a warehouse-type hypermarket in mid-March.

Recently, Mr. A was surprised when he opened a can of beer stored in the refrigerator and poured it into a cup. This is because he discovered a yellowish slime coming out of the beer. He opened another can he had also purchased, but the situation was the same. However, he did not have a specific smell.

In an interview with the media, Mr. A said, “(The mucus flowing down from the canned beer) looked like snot at first, but over time it became like snot,” and added, “You can eat it without knowing, but you can’t eat it without knowing.”

Afterwards, Mr. A reportedly reported it to the headquarters where the beer was manufactured. Then, the head office representative explained that there may have been a problem during the distribution process. It is said that fine air may have entered a crack created when a can was dropped while loading and unloading with a forklift, and this slime may have been formed when the air and protein met.

However, Mr. A said that there were no dents in the can. The manufacturer asked Mr. A to dispose of the beer he purchased and provided six boxes of other beer of the same brand.

Regarding this, a food safety expert looked at the beer in question and said, “The beer in question is a sparkling liquor, that is, a mixed liquor, but it appears that the thickener or other protein ingredients were not properly mixed. It is not toxic, but it seems that the manufacturer needs to take action.”

This is not the first time there has been controversy over mucilage in beer. On the 27th of last month, netizen B posted a post on an online community titled, ‘Mucus like snot comes out of beer.’ It is known that Mr. B also purchased the same brand of beer that Mr. A purchased.

There were also damage verification comments on the post, all of which made the same claim: “I bought the same beer at a warehouse-type supermarket, and the manufacturing date is listed as March.”
