“I receive 4 billion won every year”… Who will receive the highest pension in history when retiring?

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health, is expected to receive the highest pension of any federal government employee in history.

The New York Post reported on the 29th (local time), citing Forbes, an economic magazine, that if Fauci retires, he is expected to receive an annual salary of more than $350,000 (about 416 million won).

He is receiving such a high pension because he has served 55 years in the federal government.

Fauci, who turned 81 on the 24th, earned $434,312 (516 million won) last year. It is the highest amount of any federal employee.

According to the New York Post, U.S. federal employees’ pensions are 80% of their average annual salary for the three years they received the most during their tenure. In addition, civil servants who have worked for more than 10 years can receive an additional pension.

However, he said that Fauci’s actual pension amount could increase further by calculating the average annual salary for three years including last year. Based on this year’s annual salary, it is highly likely that the pension received will increase.

But the New York Post said Fauci was unlikely to receive a pension anytime soon.

This is because, in a recent interview with the media, when asked about when to retire, he said that he would continue to work until he overcomes the COVID-19 crisis.
