IB announces Hong Kong’s 93rd champion male to stay in Hong Kong to study medicine and contribute to society

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) released its rankings yesterday. There are 2,213 candidates in Hong Kong this year, of which 93 have achieved a perfect score of 45, making them IB “Number One Scholar”, accounting for about 15% of the world’s total. Among them, 36 champions were born from 7 schools affiliated to the English Schools Association, 12 from St. Paul’s Co-educational College, 5 from Diocesan Boys’ College, 4 from Canadian International School of Hong Kong, 4 from Po Leung Kuk Choi Kee-You School and Hong Li College respectively. Jiang Victoria School has 1 person.

Among the traditional elite schools for boys, there are 5 champions with a perfect score of 45 and 13 second place with a score of 44. Among them, 13 plan to study abroad, enrolling in engineering, philosophy and other subjects, and 5 will stay in Hong Kong to study medicine, including 2 champions. Among them, the champion Chen Zilang pointed out that because he participated in volunteer services in the past, he had seen “the side behind Hong Kong’s prosperity”, which triggered his ideal of staying in Hong Kong to help people as a doctor. In addition, his father was a pharmacist, and he would usually discuss medical-related issues with him at home. He hopes to work in the public academy to help grassroots citizens after graduation. Another champion, Wu Zhuopei, said that the epidemic has made him aware that he and his relatives and friends are under a lot of psychological pressure, and he hopes to contribute to the society and help more people with medical knowledge.

This year, more than 170,000 people took the IB exam around the world, and 640 people got full marks, which was nearly half of last year’s number. However, the average score was 38.36 points, higher than the global level of 31.98 points.
