[서울파이낸스 이도경 기자] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 15th that exports in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector last month were 12.77 billion dollars (about 17.8 trillion won), down 35.9% from the same period last year.

The decline in ICT exports has continued for 10 consecutive months since June last year.

Previously, exports in April last year reached 19.93 billion dollars (about 26.66 trillion won), the highest for the same month.

By item, semiconductor exports were $6.48 billion, down 40.5% from the same period last year. The decline continued for 9 consecutive months due to weakening demand for ICT devices and falling prices of memory units.

In particular, the decrease in memory semiconductor exports was 54.1%, which was more than system semiconductors (22.1%).

Display exports fell 30.5% to $1.43 billion over the same period. In particular, OLED (organic light emitting diode) fell by 21.6%, and LCD (liquid crystal display) also fell by 43.9% due to a decline in domestic production.

Mobile phones fell 41.6%, 42.3% in finished products and 41.2% in parts, respectively, and communications equipment exports fell 14.7% to $200 million.

However, among telecom equipment exports, exports to India increased by 380.5% to $20 million as equipment imports increased due to the expansion of 5G telecom infrastructure.

Looking at the current status of exports by region, exports to China (including Hong Kong), which accounts for 40% of Korea’s ICT exports, fell by 39.0% to $5.1 billion.

By country, the share of exports to China fell from 42.1% in November last year to 40.0% last month.

In addition, ICT exports also decreased in major regions other than China, such as △Vietnam 26.7% △US 40.1% △European Union 36.8% △Japan 25.1%.

However, cell phone exports to the United States, which has recently increased demand for flagship cell phones, increased by 126.9%, and secondary battery exports to the United States also increased by 22.5% to $390 million.

Last month, the share of ICT exports in the total industry was 25.7%.
