High School and Collegiate Sports Updates
Thursday, February 5, 2026 – Several notable performances and coaching changes have recently occurred across high school and collegiate sports.
High School Basketball: Crockett Alum Excels as Coach
Sam Tarlton, a David Crockett alum, has secured his first two wins as the head coach of the Pioneers basketball team. The victories came against Clinton (66-50) and Asheville School (65-56) on Thursday, according to reports. Tarlton previously spent eight seasons at North Greene, achieving a record of 208-78 and leading the Huskies to four region titles and five state tournament appearances.
In the win against Clinton, Caleb Eaves and Nolan Street combined for 41 points, with Eaves scoring a game-high 21 and Street adding 20. Colton Mullis and Cameron Gouge contributed seven and six points respectively. Clinton was led by Bryson Maddux with 16 points and Eli Slaven with 15.
Against Asheville School, Eaves again led the Pioneers with 20 points, followed by Street with 17 and Gouge with 13. Joshua Mboura scored 16 for Asheville and Duka Vuksanovic added 15.
West Ridge Basketball Opens with Wins
West Ridge High School also began the season with a victory, defeating Hancock County 62-40. The Wolves were propelled by strong performances from newcomers Will Holmes and Grant Thompson, both of whom made four three-pointers. Holmes scored 22 points, and Thompson added 16. Ronnie Smith contributed 17 points, and the trio accounted for all but seven of the Wolves’ total points. Isaiah Foder led Hancock County with 14 points, while Mason Delph scored 11.
Tennessee High School Basketball: Reed Miller’s Dominating Performance
Reed Miller of Tennessee High School delivered a standout performance in a 61-50 win over Cocke County. Miller recorded a double-double with 17 points and 24 rebounds in a game played at Providence Academy.
Baseball: Stellar Pitching in Collegiate Games
