Mateus Nunes sent an apology message to Wolverhampton Wanderers fans.

Nunes was one of the midfielders loved by Wolverhampton fans. After showing off his skills at Sporting, he joined the Wolves Army in August 2022 for a huge sum of 45 million euros (about 65.8 billion won). As soon as he joined, he established himself as a starting player and played a key role in Wolverhampton’s midfield, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist in 41 games, including cup competitions.

However, in an instant, he became a ‘traitor’ among Wolverhampton fans. It was because of the transfer saga. During last summer’s transfer window, reports emerged that Manchester City wanted Nunes, and this quickly gained momentum. Nunes was also very interested in Manchester City’s interest and publicly expressed his desire for a transfer.

During this process, Nunes even missed Wolverhampton training in order to transfer to Manchester City. At the time, British public broadcaster BBC reported, “Nunez stopped training at Wolverhampton to ensure a transfer to Manchester City.”

As a result, Nunes’ transfer to Manchester City was accomplished. Manchester City invested a huge amount of 62 million euros (about 90.7 billion won) to bring him.

Nunes achieved his dream transfer, and after some time, he sent an apology message to Wolverhampton fans. In an interview with the British media ‘Manchester Evening News’, he said, “I know my actions upset the Wolverhampton fans. For that, I want to say I’m sorry. I could have acted differently. But (the Manchester City transfer) “It was my dream and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity.”

Nunes joins Manchester City. The first year’s grades were below expectations. He has been tipped to be a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, but he has so far struggled to adapt to the team. He suffered a fractured finger in the middle of the season and was placed on the absentee list. He ultimately failed to establish himself as a starting player and is now a bench resource. He has played in 28 games, including cup competitions, but his offensive points are only 5 assists and no goals.
