IMF chief urges “China to adapt ‘Zero Corona’ to mitigate impact on global economy”

The President of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva has urged the Chinese government to adapt its ‘zero corona’ policy.

In an interview with the Associated Press in Berlin, Germany yesterday (29th), Georgieva said that China’s hard-line “zero corona” approach, which aims to isolate all confirmed cases, must be readjusted.

As for the reason for the need for policy adjustment, Governor Georgieva said, “This is because of the impact it has on people and the economy.”

At the same time, he emphasized, “Through ‘limited regulation’, the spread of corona can be prevented without the burden of significant economic costs.”

Georgieva also urged Chinese authorities to vaccinate the most vulnerable.

Recently, demonstrations protesting the government’s strict corona quarantine measures have followed in various parts of China, including Beijing and Shanghai.
