In Bulgaria, the fifth election in two years is underway – news

The citizens of Bulgaria go to the polls for the fifth time in the last two years, and more than 6.6 million Bulgarians with the right to vote elect 240 representatives for the new convocation of the parliament, reports Anadolia.

After the last four election cycles, the parties failed to secure a parliamentary majority, and thus did not manage to form a stable government, which resulted in a deep political crisis and divisions in society.

“I hope that, finally, principles based on common sense and facts will prevail over politics in Bulgaria,” said President Rumen Radev.

Emphasizing that the interests of the state and citizens should be in the foreground, Radev said: “Today, the most important thing is to vote.”

The prime minister of the interim government, Gilib Donev, said that he is ready to hand over his position to the new prime minister, if the new parliament could form a government after the vote.

“Don’t be afraid to vote, the organization of the election is extremely good,” said Donev.

Polling companies expect at least five parties to exceed the four percent threshold in the country’s 240-member parliament.

About 6.6 million voters registered in Bulgaria and abroad choose between 21 parties and coalitions.

Polling stations close at 8 p.m.
