Al-Wakrah was crowned champion of the Qatar Football Cup after defeating Al-Rayyan 1-0 on Saturday in the final match of the competition in which the top four teams in the league participated.

Al-Wakrah owes its victory to its player Nasser Al-Yazidi, who scored the valuable goal of the victory (80).

It is Al Wakrah’s first title in the competition under its current name since 2013, and the second in its original extension (the Crown Prince Cup), which it won once before in 1999, which embodies the long absence of coronations since the league title in the 2000-2001 season.

Al-Wakrah was the better side for most of the match, especially in the opening match that witnessed the opening goal by Moroccan Ayoub Assal, who took advantage of a pass from Egyptian international Hamdi Fathi and followed it into the net, before the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled it out for offside (9).

Al-Wakra scored another goal, headed by Algerian Mohamed Benytout, and the video assistant referee intervened again and canceled it for the same reason (28).

Al-Wakrah continued to have the advantage in the second half, and waited until the last ten minutes to score the winning goal through Al-Yazidi, who took advantage of a wonderful pass from Angolan Giacinto Dala to go one-on-one with goalkeeper Fahd Younis and put the ball into the net (80).
