Inauguration of Dhirubhai Ambani’s Kokilaben Art House at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. Sangam Confluence Exhibit Marks Art House Opening

Mumbai: Dhirubhai Ambani established Kokilaben Art House at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center has seen many impressive performances in the last two days. The power and beauty of visual art was what the audience got at the Cultural Center today.

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani founded Art House – it will become the country’s premier venue for visual arts. The title of the first art exhibition at the Art House is ‘Sangam/Confluence’. The artworks of 10 world famous artists are displayed. There are five Indian artists and five foreign artists. The exhibition also features the works of T Ratheesh, a Malayalee and a native of Thiruvananthapuram. The exhibition includes over 50 works of art and unique installations by these ten artists. These are works of art that evoke India’s diverse cultural heritage.

Curated by American curator Jeffrey Deitch and India’s leading cultural theorist Ranjit Hoscott, the exhibition is inspired by an idea deeply rooted in Indian culture. The exhibition includes works by internationally renowned artists such as Ansel Kiefer, Cicely Brown and Francesco Clemente. This is the first time that her works are being exhibited in India. The works of Indian artists like Bhupan Khakhar, Ranjani Shettar, Ratheesh T and Shantibhai are on display. The show is witness to a unique confluence of traditions just like the cultural centre.

On the last day of the gala, Nita Ambani and Isha Ambani launched ‘India in Fashion: The Impact of Indian Dress and Textiles on the Fashionable Imagination’ – a beautifully illustrated coffee table book published by Rizzoli.

Art historian, writer and curator Amin Jaffer, fashion and textile designer Anuradha Vakiel, journalist and renowned fashion critic Suzy Menkes and editor and writer Priyanka Khanna took part. The song sung by acclaimed indie-pop singer Prateek Kuhad was also beautiful.
