‘Indian cricketers under pressure to make decisions’; Revealed by the referee

Mumbai: International umpire Nithil Menon openly said that India’s senior players are under pressure to take decisions on the ground during the match. Nitin also said during the Ashes series that managing Team India’s matches was a big challenge.

“Working as an umpire for the first two years in the Indian subcontinent was a great experience. It was Test matches and then Twenty20 World Cups in Australia and Dubai. Being able to work with the world’s best referees and players has enhanced referee excellence. Learned a lot about how to handle stressful situations. When Team India plays in India, there will be a lot of hype for that game. The big players in the Indian team will try to create a lot of pressure on us. In games with 50-50 chances, the players will try to turn the decision in their favour. But we do not pay attention to what they do and do. It shows how well the stars manage things firmly despite the intense pressure they create. This has given me a lot of confidence. Guiding the Indian umpires is also a big task. When I got to the elite ICC panel, I was not very experienced. But in the last three years I have grown enormously as a referee.

If there is a game tomorrow, we know who the players are going to be on the field. Preparations are made accordingly. Nitin Menon also said that some players create pressure but try to manage it strategically. Nitin Monan is currently the only Indian on the ICC’s elite judging panel. Nitin will manage matches in England from the third Ashes Test series. The Ashes series is a big battleground. He also said that he expects an exciting competition.
